Everything You Wanted to Know About New York’s Affirmation Tower

Posted by Melvin Monachan | Mar 20, 2022 | 0 Comments

In November 2021, renderings of an upside-down New York skyscraper called Affirmation Tower were unveiled by developer Don Peebles and Ghanian-British architect Sir David Adjaye. The newest skyscraper to line the skies of New York City will be the second tallest, right behind One World Trade Center and the highest occupiable floor in the Western Hemisphere.

What Makes Affirmation Tower So Interesting?

Affirmation Tower is not only visually breathtaking but an exciting endeavor to boot. This New York City skyscraper will be the first to be owned by majority black and women-led companies. In addition, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will house their headquarters there. New York City is vastly populated by people of color and women, but their representation is not reflected in current architecture. So, the team behind Affirmation Tower has taken this opportunity to make sure they are finally represented in the most iconic skyline in the world.

The Design

The tower is shaped like a blossoming tree. The tapered ends represent a firm trunk, branching out at the top to create endless possibilities for women and minorities. Moreover, the designers are determined to keep Affirmation Tower open and inviting to all New Yorkers and promise not to seal it off like many other skyscrapers in the city. It will include world-class amenities, like a skating rink, rooftop eatery, ballroom, and other community and public entertainment spaces, that they hope will boost New York City's tourism economy.

And what better to boost the tourism economy than a gorgeous skyscraper, the likes of which have never been seen in the Western Hemisphere?
